Private tutor in Los Angeles, CA

Education

From 1999-2003 I attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for my undergraduate education in chemistry - specializing in organic and biochemistry in particular. I then worked as a synthetic organic and medicinal chemist in the private pharmaceutical industry for 7 years, publishing multiple papers and one patent as an employee of both Schering-Plough Corp, and Merck & Co, Inc. In 2010 I went back to school for an Organic Chemistry PhD from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and since 2016 I've been working in laboratory safety for the Office of Environment, Health, and Safety.

Experience

While a student at MIT and UCLA I tutored undergraduates in general and organic chemistry courses, then in 2016 I began tutoring all types of learners from middle school through graduate level. As a tutor for college students I've been most prolific in the chemical and biological disciplines, although I consistently tutor all science courses up to high school level. Organic chemistry remains my most well-honed specialty - I can tutor any level of the subject through graduate school. I also excel teaching larger groups, as indicated by my Hanson-Dow Teaching Award earned while a teaching assistant for Organic Chemistry I at UCLA. I've worked with numerous students with learning disabilities, including dyslexia and ADD, helping them excel regardless of their obstacles. My SAT (1470/1600 - 740 Verbal, 730) and other standardized text scores are excellent, but what truly makes the biggest difference is my adaptive approach towards discovering each student's optimal learning style. The personalized program I'll craft for each student will harness their natural curiosity and direct them towards a path of knowledge, proficiency, and critical thought. Please feel free to inquire about other subjects such as math, physics, philosophy, etc.
