Experience

Former Professor of English, Literature, and Speech in the Philippines, 15 year-experience Informal/Volunteer tutoring experience - ongoing I would like to be a tutor because I want to help students accomplish their academic goals, particularly in the areas of the English language, which is my expertise, and in Literature, which is my forte and passion. I also believe that it will be a good vehicle of self-expression for me as well as an opportunity to inspire students to learn, understand, and appreciate literature in its various forms. I am really good at these subject areas and I think this is a perfect part-time job opportunity for me as I am transitioning into a professional writer. As a student journalist, I was the Editor-in-Chief of "Ang Pagbutlak" (The Sunrise), the offiical publication of the University of the Philippines, school year 1978-79. I had also been Editorial Assistant, Features Editor, Literary Editor, and Managing Editor of the said publication in the previous years. I was a University Scholar, consistent honor student, and Class Valedictorian. I was also president of most student organizations. I founded and led "The UP Voice," a group of students at the University of the Philippines. This group served the spiritual needs of students in the nation's premium state university through meetings and gatherings, retreats and celebrations, as well as through individual mentoring. It was a group that was graced and honored by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Hobbies

My greatest passion of all is learning. I continually study and read and learn new things. I love books and music. Having gone to the Conservatory of Music at Colegio de las Hijas de Jesus, Philippines, where I had my high school education and at which I studied piano and guitar, it is but natural to have developed an appreciation for classical music. Furthermore, I had always volunteered my services at the local parishes in my former country, Philippines, as a member of the choir, of the Legion of Mary, of the Charismatic Movement, and as a catechist. I am presently volunteering at the North Valley Caring Services, North Hills, CA and am endeavoring to be a tutor under the Adult Literacy Program of the Los Angeles Public Library. I also like watching movies, particularly period pieces, and those based on books. My favorite reading materials are novels, especially historical novels.
