Emory University - Bachelors, Philosophy/Journalism , University of Nevada-Las Vegas - Masters, Curriculum and Instruction, Secondary Science
I graduated from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, with a bachelor's degree in philosophy. Immediately after receiving my degree, I enrolled in a national teaching program, received my teaching certification, and then became a middle school teacher in Las Vegas. After three years as a classroom teacher, I entered graduate school and earned my master's degree in education from the University of Las Vegas with a focus on curriculum and instruction. I have the knowledge and experience necessary to teach a wide range of subjects to students at the elementary and middle school level, but my favorite lessons are those which involve math and science. In my experience as a teacher, I've found that the best way to help struggling students excel in the classroom is to come up with a teaching strategy that they can relate to. That means getting to know their personalities, their strengths, and their weaknesses. With this information, I'm then able to come up with customized lessons that work specifically for them and help them expand upon their already existing skill set, while also teaching them how to apply their classroom knowledge practically in the real world. Aside from teaching, my other passion is the performing arts - especially dance.
