Education

Art and Architecture Major at University of California, class of 2014. Dean's Honors List 2011-2014, Resnick Merit Scholarship Recipient 2011-2014. The Head-Royce School in Oakland, CA 2003-2010. SFAI Presidential Scholarship Award, 2010

Experience

I have tutored the same boy since he was in 2nd grade, and continue to occasionally help him with his writing while he's a freshman at UCLA. We primarily worked on critical and creative writing in his History and English courses. While attending a rigorous private school in northern California, the essays we workshopped, and his English and History exams we studied for received all A's. At UCLA I took as many writing courses as possible (English Composition, Pre-20th Century Comparative Literature, and a slew of critical theory and history classes), and thrived in classes that included large writing components. While at UCLA, writing became a strong suit for me in all of my classes, and there I was on the Dean's Honors List for my Sophomore, Junior and Senior year and received the Art and Architecture Department's highest merit-based award, the Resnick Scholarship 4 times. I like tutoring as it comes naturally to me. As someone with a younger brother and 11 younger cousins, I've occupied the role of mentor/teacher my whole life. I also thoroughly enjoy studying the humanities and am actively invested in literature, art and history. Sharing my knowledge of these subjects, but more importantly, helping someone to discover their own interest in them is fun for me. Growing up with the role of older sibling and role model, I understand how to connect with people and to encourage engaging with course material in a way that they find enjoyable and stimulating. Having attended (and tutored kids who attended) a rigorous, private middle and high school, I am very familiar with the challenges and demands of difficult coursework. I also have worked as an assistant to a UCLA graduate MFA student for the past 2 years, and much of my work entails editing and revising her graduate level writing.
