Experience

Hi there! I am originally from London, England, but moved to Connecticut for middle school and to Los Angeles for college, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Southern California in 2012. During my time at USC, I acquired dual BA degrees in Film and Television Production and Anthropology, and studied the Anthropology of India for one semester at Oxford University in England. When I returned to the US, I wrote my thesis on Urban Farming in Los Angeles. I began tutoring over eight years ago as a daily, after-school homework helper. I continued to tutor middle school students, as well as fellow high school students in english and essay writing. Additionally, I worked as the Director of Arts at a day camp in the summers, and as a college student, I volunteered at an inner city elementary school, where I taught one semester of geology to a class of second graders. As someone who grew up in a home that put a major emphasis on education, I understand the value of one-on-one learning, and feel that an enjoyable teacher can make all the difference. I always felt that my best teachers were the ones who treated their students as equals, and in turn, I believe that good listening and a sense of mutual-respect leads to empowered learning. As a freelance writer, I have worked as a copywriter, editor and speech writer. However, I also had an LSEE, SSAT, SAT and ACT tutor myself and as a result, I am well-versed in standardized test strategy. I am very comfortable teaching all subjects up to the 8th grade level, but focus on reading and writing at the high school level and above.
