Education

Academics have always been a strong part of my life. I took my first college literature course when I was 12, and graduated high school two years later. I then studied English at a small liberal arts college in California where I was awarded the President's Scholarship for five consecutive semesters for my GPA. I graduated Summa Cum Laude at 19. I love to learn, and I love to teach, so I earned a CELTA certificate to teach English to speakers of other languages in my Junior year of college. Even after college, I wanted to continue learning, so as a graduation present to myself, I studied Russian for 6 weeks in Ukraine and Crimea while simultaneously teaching English there.

Experience

I have 6 years of experience tutoring writing, 4 years of ESL tutoring and 2 years of ESL classroom teaching experience in the U.S. as well as abroad (ask me about what Ukraine was like before the fighting and what I think about Ecuador's weather =) ). I also have a year of experience teaching children with behavioral and attention deficit disorders from Kindergarten through Jr. High in Reading and Writing. In 2011, I placed into the 94th percentile on the GRE writing section, meaning that I did better than 94% of other test takers in the previous 5 years on that section. I love teaching, and I especially love tutoring. My favorite part is seeing students struggle to grasp the material, and then finally see the "Aha!" moment when they've understood. My students appreciate my patient, kind and laid back delivery.

Hobbies

When I'm not teaching ESL classes, I enjoy photography, hunting for fashion finds, learning languages (like Russian and Spanish!), hanging out with friends, reading massive tomes and watching Netflix marathons. I like to be creative, so expressing that side of my personality also comes through in my teaching approach. I'm always looking for how to utilize music, movies and T.V. in my teaching!
