I have several years of formal tutoring experience and have tutored a wide age range of students, from Harvard College students to elementary school children. I was a tutor at the Harvard Bureau of Study Counsel for two years, where I tutored college students in economics/statistics, film studies, and Spanish. I served as a mentor to disadvantaged youth at the nearby Watertown Public School system, where I helped elementary students with homework and practice very basic subjects. I also served as a camp counselor for the Harvard Athletic Department, where I coached prospective student athletes (I was a varsity baseball player) and also advised them on college admissions and standardized testing. I prefer a calm, relaxed method of tutoring that emphasizes the base concepts of a given subject and how a student can build upon these concepts to more advanced problems. I have tutored students in test prep (SAT and ACT) and several subjects including reading comprehension, English, economics, mathematics, writing, film, and Spanish. I enjoy tutoring because it's an opportunity to help others achieve their academic and career goals, and find it especially rewarding when students are finally able to grasp a subject and become motivated to learn even more.
