Laurel L.
Private tutor in Los Angeles, CA
Education
I graduated from UCLA's Teacher Education Program in 2011 with a master's degree in education and a multiple subject credential (with a 4.0). I attended UCLA for undergrad and graduated with a 3.83. I am trained in CGI (cognitively guided interaction) and wrote my master's thesis on CGI math. My education and training have allowed me to focus on closing educational gaps for children.
Experience
I have taught 2nd grade for two years and 1st grade for 1 year. I did student teaching in 5th grade and 3rd grade. I currently work for LAUSD and have lots of experience with reading intervention and math intervention. At my school we have been using the Common Core standards for 2 years and I am very familiar with them. We use CCSS aligned programs such as SWUN math, multisyllabic decoding by the 95% Group, and writer's workshop, which I can bring to your child. I am confident I can help provide students who are struggling in reading, writing, and/or math with a kickstart for the next school year, or catch them up without summer school. I also provide parents with strategies and resources that they can use to hep their own child excel.

Hobbies
I love teaching and am always seeking the opportunity to engage with students one-on-one, because that is when you see the most progress. I am creative, artistic, and innovative. I typically connect well with special needs students and have a calm, encouraging presence in the classroom. I am extremely patient...but no nonsense at the same time. I am currently available on weekends or any weekday after 4:30, but starting June 10th, my schedule is free.
