Experience

Hello, I am an English teacher who has a wide array of different experiences over the past 5 years. I have done everything from teaching 11th grade English, substitute teaching, private tutoring, and more. I am most comfortable with the age-groups and subject-matter of grades 6-12, though I do have experience that stretches outside this. I am highly organized, punctual, and focused on working as effectively as possible. My tutoring experience has been particularly rewarding, as I've been able to branch out and teach students in ways I never anticipated. One of my past Care students was an adult who spoke native Mandarin and needed help with vocabulary and phrases. I am also comfortable with remote-tutoring, as my most recent student was enrolled in an online High School in Florida. We worked together via Skype on writing, literature, and more. I enjoy tutoring because it allows the student to have a one-on-one connection with a teacher. It is solely focused on the student and their specific needs, rather than a full-class experience. I hold a Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate in English for grades 7-12 and California is currently processing my application for earning a California Teaching Credential. In addition, my teaching clearances are up-to-date and background checks are available upon request.

Hobbies

In my free time I enjoy writing, film-going & film-making, reading, and riding my bike. I absolutely love dogs and I'm more of a listener than a talker. This feeds into my tutoring in that I allow students to dictate their needs and work through problems/questions mentally before I jump in a give a guiding hand.
