Experience
Hi Folks! My name is Alice, and I have been working as a public school math teacher for the past four years. I graduated from Arcadia High School, then graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in mathematics and education and got my teaching credential and master's from Claremont Graduate University. I have taught subjects such as algebra 1, geometry, and algebra 2, but I am also very familiar with precalculus and all of the middle school subjects. I am familiar with a variety of textbooks and curriculum (for both regular and honors courses). When working with students, I try my best to figure out their strengths and weaknesses and work from there, tailoring each session to the students' needs. I am up to date on the Common Core and am familiar with the new testing system. Thus, in addition to lots of procedural practice, I also stress conceptual understanding of mathematical topics. I ask students to explain their thinking and to justify their answers to show me that they actually "get it." I am constantly reflecting on my work, and thus welcome feedback from parents and students on my tutoring practices. Because of my daytime job, I am available for tutoring after school, preferably around 5 or 6 pm. In addition, I am happy to travel to any location that is most convenient for the student. I look forward to hearing from you and helping you succeed in your studies!
