Private tutor in Los Angeles, CA

Education

First year MFA student at UCLA, BA from SFSU in 2013, 3.65 GPA Film Major

Experience

I have around four years of experience working with youth in a variety of settings; I have been a tutor, an art teacher and an after school teacher. Academics have always been very important to me. For the last five summers I have taught art and animation to elementary school children, and for the last two summers I have also taught graphic design and computer skills to middle school students. I was a lead teacher at an after school program through the YMCA for a year. As an after school teacher I created lesson plans for daily enrichments and helped each of my 20 first grade students with homework during the daily academic enrichment period. The previous year I worked as a private tutor for a family who spoke English as a second language. I tutored their second grade son in all subjects with a focus on reading and writing, and tutored their sixth grade daughter in all subjects with a focus on English and Science. She had test taking anxiety, so I also helped with study skills and test taking strategies. I love working with youth and teaching, but I actually prefer tutoring and more one-on-one help, because every student is different and I love finding methods that work with each individual's learning style. I have taken the SAT, ACT, and GRE as well as AP Literature and Government tests. I have a great deal of experience tutoring multiple subjects at many grade levels. My strongest areas are English--composition, reading comprehension, spelling and grammar, etc.--at all grade levels, math for K-8, and science for elementary, middle school and high school. I received A's in my college Biology and Physics courses, and though I did not have to take English courses in college because of my high score on the AP Literature test in high school, I did continue to take many theory classes in college to flex my writing muscle. In college and graduate school I study Film and Animation. I have an extensive background in the arts, including art history, and have experience teaching and tutoring art as well.

Hobbies

I love reading, writing, drawing, animating, and making movies. I wouldn't go so far as to call myself a "movie buff" but as a Film major with an Animation emphasis, I must say I do love movies and cartoons. I also love a good work of fiction, but I also love reading about Astro-Physics and science. I played the flute all through elementary school and high school, and was on swim team for just as long.
