Private tutor in Los Angeles, CA

Education

History Major at University of California, Santa Cruz--graduated with Highest Honors (GPA: 3.9)

Experience

I've worked as a tutor for over four years. From June 2009 to June 2012, I worked as a private, freelance tutor in Santa Cruz, CA. My pupils included a seventh-grader who was an English Language Learner, a seventh-grader with ADD, an eight-grader with Asperger's syndrome, a high school sophomore, and a high school senor with severe ADD. I tutored the following subjects: ESL, pre-algebra, biology, history, AP art history, writing, English lit., history, general study and organizational skills From January 2013 through August 2013, I worked at a tutoring center/prep academy. There, I worked as a homework tutor for fourth-graders during the school year. During the summer, I taught fifth grade grammar & vocab, writing, math (pre-algebra), and social studies. Since September, I have been tutoring fifteen students --fourteen sixth-graders and one eighth-grader--for the ISEE. Because they are all taking the test this month, I will soon have a lot of availability to take on new pupils. Working as a tutor gives me great joy and brings out my best qualities: sensitivity, patience, creativity, compassion, and flexibility. I have a knack for quickly perceiving the learning needs of individual students and adjusting my methods to them. I know how to have fun with students and how to use this entice them to learn. Because I make my pupils feel comfortable, they know that they can ask or tell me anything. I find that I can establish rapport with students who are perceived as difficult or uncommunicative. The trust I build encourages students to take risks that stretch their learning abilities. I believe that education is my calling, and that is why I am currently in the process of applying to teaching credential programs. I hope to become an elementary school teacher and then earn my Master's either in Education or School Psychology. SAT scores: Verbal-670, Math-650
