Education
I hold a PhD from UCLA in the life sciences, and currently teach microbiology at UCLA. In total I have been studying biology for over 11 years. My PhD research was in the field of medical imaging and immunology. For my undergraduate degree, I graduated from UC Irvine in 2011 with a major in Genetics, with Honors in Biological Sciences and Excellence in Research, and graduated from high school with a 4.7 GPA after completing the International Baccalaureate program (similar to AP).
Experience
I am a lecturer at UCLA with excellent evaluations from my students. I specialize in cell biology, molecular biology, immunology, and microbiology. Rather than drilling you with flashcards or spend time reviewing what you covered in class, I use active learning (going beyond memorization) in order to help you grasp the material. I'll ask you questions to identify where we need to spend more time, and work with you to improve. Of course, if you just want a refresher of the material, I'm also happy to review with you. I also offer editing services for scientific and general writing. I am a published author of scientific articles, and founded a science magazine for students to practice their writing. Teaching is my passion, so I have completed training and education to improve my technique. I usually work with college students, but I can also tutor K-12 students as well. I am very patient and have often been told that I am great at helping people understand both simple and complicated topics.
