Education

MIT, Ph.D. - Plasma Physics (2010) Cornell University, BS - Applied and Engineering Physics (2001) Students can improve scores, gain insights, and build enthusiasm with just a little extra help - being able to guide them to success is why I have a passion for teaching and tutoring.

Experience

I teach students how to solve problems and score well on homework sets and exams, and also it's important to help students with their study skills, ability to learn from textbooks, time management, and how to balance studying with social time and/or athletics. These skills are essential for a student to succeed in the college environment. I have a BS in Applied Physics from Cornell University and a Ph.D. in Plasma Physics from MIT. I've had the privilege to learn from some amazing teachers as well slog it out with some not so amazing ones - and such is the nature of learning. If you're finding yourself slogging it out, let me give you some extra help. I've been tutoring/teaching college level math & physics for the past 17 years. I worked as a Teaching Assistant while at Cornell and MIT, taught undergraduate Physics at San Diego City College, and have privately tutored 1-on-1 for 15 years. The bulk of my experience has been in Calculus 1 & 2, and high school/college Physics (including all AP Calc/Physics classes). I focus mainly on high school and college students although I also like working with motivated middle school students. I have plenty of experience with standardized tests (AP/SAT/GRE), and have no problem tailoring my tutoring in preparation of the spring AP exams. I have also worked with high school students in Algebra, Trigonometry, and Pre-Calculus; and upper division college students in Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, Mechanics, Electricity & Magnetism, Statistical Mechanics, and Quantum Mechanics. For high school students, I can also provide help with the college application process.

Hobbies

When I'm not tutoring, I'm working hard at my full-time job building the future of transportation, training for triathlon, or just getting outside to enjoy the California sun. In the winter time, I try to head out of town every now and then and make trips to the mountains to get on my snowboard and enjoy the snow.
