Education

BA, Stanford University (2002); International Relations (Spanish minor), with honors. JD, Harvard Law School (2008). In college, I took significant coursework in political science, history, economics, English literature, and Spanish language and literature. In both college and law school, I earned an A or A- on every paper I wrote (and around 90% of those were As). I'm currently an attorney with a great nonprofit organization, which I absolutely love, but education is my other passion and I really enjoy working with students.

Experience

Since 1999, I have tutored students from elementary school age through college students and adult learners. I'm experienced in teaching English language, writing and Spanish. I am also skilled in helping students to develop and edit admissions essays for college and graduate school. Another specialty is working with graduate students who are writing theses or dissertations. I've done this type of work since 2008, and have successfully worked with many graduate students studying a variety of topics, from business and marketing, to psychology, to history. I am able to guide students through the writing and editing process and ensure that the final result is a quality paper of which the student can be proud. Whether you need help with just one assignment or would like to learn to master high-level academic writing over time, I'm here to help! I'm also an experienced Spanish tutor, and have lived and worked in Chile and in Spain. At Stanford and following graduation, I also spent years teaching English-language learners and coached one high-school student from no English knowledge to fluency in less than a year. I'm a friendly and flexible person and I love working with students of all ages. My teaching style is to break down complicated concepts into simple lessons that are easy to understand and remember. I enjoy seeing students gain confidence in their abilities and realize that they CAN learn to master writing or languages. I'm a very clear communicator and am patient with my students; I understand that truly mastering something new takes time, repetition and possibly a number of different approaches.

Hobbies

I enjoy dance (particularly tap and classical ballet), the outdoors, reading and writing. I also usually have a wide assortment of random hobbies (most recently public speaking, French lessons and sewing). As a student, I ran track and was part of a competitive dance team that was California State champion for many consecutive years. I live on the Westside of LA and am available to meet with students who live within about 45 minutes of me. I'm also able to work with students by telephone or email.
