Education

Graduated with Phi Beta Kappa honors (top 8%) from UCSD in 2012 with a double major in Biology and Philosophy. Currently a first-year medical student at UCLA's David Geffen School of Medicine.

Experience

I've had experience working with students both in my personal life and as a job. I've developed strong study habits and writing skills, and I enjoy teaching. I graduated from Lynbrook High School with a 4.3 weighted GPA and earned a score of either 4 or 5 on all of the AP tests that I took. TEACHING EXPERIENCE: *Throughout my undergraduate years, I have tutored a wide range of students including other undergraduates, High School students and Middle School students. So far, I have not had a student whose grades did not improve significantly after receiving instruction from me. * Lynbrook High Debate Captain - As a debate captain for 2 years, I spent 10+ hours per week teaching more than 60 novice students the basics of argumentation, organization, research skills and public speaking. Our team was highly ranked nationally and many of the students that I taught went on to have success at the national level. * UCSD Biology Department - I was employed by the UCSD Biology Department as an assistant, grader and test proctor. I helped grade exams and was assigned to work specifically with students that had learning disabilities. OTHER EXPERIENCE: As a double major in Biology and Philosophy, I am a well-rounded student and have been successful in both the pure sciences and the humanities. Despite the wide range of classes that I have taken, I have found consistent success because of my strong study habits and critical thinking skills. In particular, I am a strong writer and often write articles for journals and publications. I am comfortable with teaching and enjoy passing my study habits and skills on to others. As for my teaching style, I am calm, patient and will make an extra effort to help our student with the material. I typically use a lot of technology aids (online flash cards, videos, typed study guides) when I teach and I have found that students enjoy employing these tools into their education. For example, I set my sister up with a flash card system that she can use on her iPod while listening to music. I live in Brentwood and would prefer to tutor students in the Westwood/Brentwood/Santa Monica area of West LA. I have my own car so I can drive to a meeting location.

Hobbies

Medical school takes up most of my time, but when I do get free time I enjoy exploring LA and volunteering at free clinics. I was highly involved in extra-curricular activities at UCSD and have been on the executive board for 4 different philanthropic organizations. Three years ago, I founded a non-profit club called UCSD Project RISHI (Rural India Social & Health Improvement), which raises funds for a leprosy colony in India that I volunteer at each summer. I am also a certified Emergency Medical Technician. In my free time, I enjoy sports, movies, video games and going to concerts. I am a huge NBA and NFL fan and I love going out to see my favorite musical artists perform live.
