Private tutor in Los Angeles, CA

Education

I am a 4th year medical student at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. I will be graduating with my MD in May 2019. I attended Mills College in Oakland, CA for undergrad on a full ride and graduated in 2013 with a double major in biology and business economics. I am originally from the Bay Area and moved to LA in 2015 for medical school. I have 12+ years of tutoring experience, with 5 years of experience tutoring AP Biology. I know the Campbell book extremely well and actually took my college biology course with one of the authors (Dr. Urry). I am also happy to share my advice about how to successfully get into medical school, as well as how to perform well in a medical school interview.

Experience

- English and Math tutor for all ages at Kumon Learning Center (Fremont, CA): 2005-2009 - Calculus, Statistics Tutor at Mills College (Oakland, CA): 2009-2013 - AP Biology, Algebra, Geometry Tutor at Brilliant Minds Academy (Fremont, CA): 2013-2015 - Self-Employed AP Biology Tutor (Fremont, CA): 2013-2015 - AP Biology Tutor at Mrs. Ku's Tutoring Center (Arcadia, CA): 2016-2017 Please let me know if you would like a copy of my full resume. I have taught AP Biology both one-on-one and in groups up to 10 people. My preferred approach for AP Biology is to lecture while I draw diagrams to enhance understanding. I encourage children to take notes only if they find that is helpful. When I taught at Mrs. Ku's Tutoring Center during the 2016-2017 school year, every student in the 10 person class passed the AP exam, with the majority scoring a 4 or 5. As someone who grew up in a very competitive public school district and has pursued a rigorous advanced academic degree, I completely understand and sympathize with the pressure that kids today feel. I know that getting into a good college is harder than ever and students can feel like their entire future is at stake. Luckily, as someone who has been through the process and who remains aware of how that process has changed in recent years, I feel that I can offer advice and perspective to anxious children and their parents.
