Experience
I began my career as a teacher in Hawaii as an English teacher. I was involved with Teach For America (TFA), which is one of the most selective teaching programs in the United States. After completing my first year as a teacher, I was selected to teach AP language. During this time, I designed a curriculum that focused on the interests and needs of my students. I also have no fear when it comes to tackling difficult subjects through writing and literature. I have experience tutoring students in a variety of areas, including comparative literature, college English, AP English literature and composition, public speaking, English grammar and syntax, and literature. I am also comfortable with helping students prepare for standardized tests, such as the SAT and ACT. In terms of hobbies, I enjoy playing the piano, hiking, running, theater, and film. In connection to my hobbies, I worked with my students to write an original musical as the leader of a theater program at my school. I also coached the track and cross country teams, which helped my students learn perseverance, teamwork, and leadership. Overall, my goal as a tutor is to create an environment that fosters nurturing and growth for my students.
