I am very interested in reading and music. Reading is great for building vocabulary and feel for how English works. Music is not only great for relaxation, but it also can build language skill when song lyrics are committed to memory in the process. When a student can sing, or try to sing, the lyrics to a song, they feel the words as they learn them and this greatly enhances retention. I also enjoying using an old fashioned dictionary to look up new or unfamiliar words. What this does (that an online dictionary does not do) is to train a student to see how words are put together, letter by letter. This helps a student not only to learn a new word, but also helps them to remember it as well. A final step to learning a new word is to write the word, which helps a student to visualize it and to etch it in their mind.
