Education

UCLA - BA, English

Experience

I earned my English literature degree and French and Latin minors from UCLA. I additionally plan on pursuing my master's degree in clinical psychology.Following the completion of my undergraduate degree in 2013, I took a job teaching children with developmental disorders. As part of my curriculum, I incorporated applied behavioral analysis therapy to reduce their maladaptive behaviors and boost the ones that will encourage their success in life. As far as my tutoring skills are concerned, I've been a tutor since high school. There I was handpicked to participate in a pilot program where juniors and seniors were paired up with freshmen and sophomore students to help them polish their writing skills. I continued to tutor in college, helping to manage an after-school program designed for middle school students in Los Angeles. I'm adept at tutoring subjects, including algebra, math, French, Italian, Latin, reading, writing, essay editing, literature, grammar and mechanics, college essays, special education, public speaking, and English. I'm also able to help students with preparation for tests such as the SAT, ACT, and SSAT. My teaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that each individual has the potential to absorb any subject no matter what his or her academic, social, environmental, or medical history. I believe in accounting for all these factors and using them to determine the student's strong points so that I can customize my teaching methods to his or her learning approach. I've found great success using this method with the students I presently work with - many of them face enormous obstacles that go beyond academic challenges.Outside of the classroom, I enjoy drawing, watching old movies, attending concerts, volunteering, running, swimming, and biking.
