Education

Attended Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire for high school. Bachelor of Arts Graduate of Columbia University in Biology and Economics, Year 2010, GPA: 3.8.

Experience

Previously, I tutored for Cambridge Education Centers in Northridge, California where I tutored high school, middle school and elementary school students in a variety of subjects (All AP Sciences, all Spanish through AP Spanish Language, AP History, and all SAT/ACT subjects) and helped high school seniors edit their college applications and essays. Several of my students have gone on to attend ivy league universities, but more importantly many of my students have found that a subject they really hated was actually one they wanted to major in; they just needed a little different perspective on the subject and a new way to learn it! The three words I would use to describe my teaching style are: compassionate, engaging and encouraging. I believe what makes me a great instructor is that I care first and foremost that my students are people with different personalities, different senses of humor, different ideas and different goals before anything else. I care about them as people and encourage a sense of trust in my teaching before I expect them to learn from me. I believe that by learning the best basics, like organization and good time-management skills, students can learn to love subjects they previously didn't understand.

Hobbies

Though I currently work in finance, I love painting and photography most of all; they have always been my favorite ways to relax. I think that art plays a huge role in how we see ourselves, how we see others and the most important foundations in school like organizational skills and educational expression can be learned through the arts more effectively many times than simply doing coursework. I also enjoy sports and was a tri-varsity athlete in high school. I made so many friends through playing sports when I was young and it helped me to come out of my shell a bit. I was very shy as a kid, but definitely built great friendships and felt more motivated when I was out on the soccer field or running cross country. I continue to run and swim every day. Finally, I love baking!
