Experience

A little background information on me: I grew up on an organic farm in Northern California. I went to Montessori Schools during my childhood and was very active, playing soccer, softball, piano, taking horseback riding lessons and being a member of Girl Scouts. I went for my bachelors to UC Santa Cruz and majored in Community Studies with a minor in Political Science. After this I lived in Berlin for half a year and traveled throughout the U.S for some time. Then, I attended the London School of Economics for my masters, focusing my research on Urbanization and Development, writing my dissertation about gentrification in Koreatown, Los Angeles. I lived in Los Angeles for two years prior to my maters degree and have just moved back at the beginning of this year. I am also doing freelance research for brand strategy and marketing firms. However, I am passionate about tutoring students because I love sharing my knowledge with others and I have the necessary social skills to do this in an effective manor. I love making the work fun and interactive and most importantly encouraging the child to be hungry for knowledge and learning. I have a strong intellectual background but am a very friendly and warm person with a great ability to explain things in an accessible way. I would ultimately like to become a teacher, therefore tutoring allows me to engage with my passion. I am a very organized and ambitious person and feel confident that I can offer great motivation and positive reinforcement for students. I have worked with youth before at summer camps and have tutored students off and on for the last two years. I have a diverse background, with lots of life experience, which allows me to engage with many types of students. It is important to me to be a positive role model and create a relationship that will be a point of inspiration in the students intellectual evolution.
