Experience
At UCLA, I have taught: (1) Philosophy of Mind (2) Introduction to Philosophy of Mind (2) Philosophy in Literature (3) Advanced Symbolic Logic (4) Introduction to Symbolic Logic. *refer to UCLA course catalog for more information* As a Certified TESOL/TESL/TEFL Instructor, I have taught English - reading comprehension, writing, speaking - to young students (K-12) in the U.S. and abroad (South Korea, Thailand, etc.). With 7+ years of professional experience, I am well-versed in educational planning and effective curriculum development. I don't teach tricks, laundry lists of facts and strategies, or how to get the right answer without knowing why; I teach deep conceptual understanding. That requires much more effort on both our parts, but it's the only thing that's worth your time and money. The key to improving your grade in a class or your score on a test or your understanding of a subject usually has less to do with reviewing basic facts or relearning forgotten rules - almost any book could teach you those! - than with improving your ability to think creatively, systematically, rigorously, and articulately. Real understanding - the kind that will not only lead to good grades or test scores, but also stay with you and serve you forever, even in other endeavors - consists not in the knowledge of a laundry list of facts or a grab-bag of mechanical strategies but rather in the ability to organize and express that knowledge, to make and explain abstract connections, to name and describe relationships, to see a bigger picture. THOSE are the skills most people can't learn from a book - because they're skills you learn only by doing (especially by talking and writing and teaching others) - and that's exactly what we'll work on. I'm very flexible and my sessions are generally relaxed, fun, and very conversational. My rates are always negotiable... if you can make me an offer that I can't refuse. Multiple sessions are always encouraged. 24 Hour Cancellation notice required. Complete Background Check information available upon request. I GUARANTEE you won't find a more helpful or expert tutor for the same price: if you don't agree, I won't charge you!
