EducationMasters of Science in Chemistry from the University of California, Irvine.
Bachelors of Science with Honors in Chemistry from University of Iowa.
ExperienceI have 7 years of experience teaching college level chemistry courses including General/Introductory Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry. Also I have experience teaching chemistry labs and can aid with writing lab reports. I have coached multiple students to prepare for both the AP Chemistry and Chemistry SAT exams. I have taken every undergraduate level chemistry course as well as AP chemistry. My graduate specialty is analytical chemistry but with a side focus on physical chemistry.
HobbiesI am a dedicated teacher who comes from a long line of educators. I am also extremely passionate about my work and my desire to help develop the next generation of scientists. My teaching philosophy is to support my students' growth and confidence (without feeding answers) so that they have a strong fundamental understanding of the subject matter and are truly capable of answering any question they might face in class or on an exam.

I found Jim online after I bombed (55 and 37) Dr. Willet's first two CH456 tests. Not only did Jim help me with the material on the third test but he helped me with what I wasn't grasping from the first half of the semester. I ended up doing great on the last test and final and made a B in the class. Not bad for doing horrible on the first two tests. Jim helped me grasp concepts that troubled me and taught me how to be successful with the concepts on my own. I highly recommend Jim to tutor for any chemistry class.
Jim was the only tutor I have ever used, so I don't have much to compare to, but he made the difference for me in analytical chemistry. He took the time to teach instead of just walking me through homework, i learned what I was doing instead of just how to get the right answer.
